Family Advocacy Program

The Family Advocacy Program is at the heart of our work here at The Arc of Northern Shenandoah Valley. As parents and advocates, we have the unique opportunity to share our own experiences in navigating an overwhelming system with compassion. Through the Family Advocacy Program, we strive to:

  • Provide a full range of information, support, encouragement, advocacy and information and referrals to appropriate community resources, programs, providers, educational programs, legal & social service programs

  • Provide families with tools and resources to navigate the various systems related to developmental disabilities across an individual’s lifespan

  • Collaborate with community partners to build networks of support for families and individuals with developmental disabilities

  • Assist families in connecting with agencies and services needed to address immediate and long-term needs

  • Offer options, encouragement and assistance in navigating the complex developmental disability system in the Northern Shenandoah Valley

  • Support families and caregivers through a in-person consultations, phone calls and email communications
