What is in non natural hair dye?

hair dye, dyes, henna, natural, organic, chemical free dye, natural hair due, natural costmetics

Not too long ago I accompanied my friend to the local hair salon to have her hair dyed, it had took her a few months to build her confidence up enough to go through with it, so she did the usual, book the appointment in a month’s time for her favourite hairdresser to do all of the work on her hair. So we get there and they start nattering about which hair colour to choose; blonde, brunette, red, ginger, blue, pink, purple – just about every colour you can imagine was on offer!

Now, after they sat her down in the chair and gave her a few cuppas and a few biscuits it came time to put the bleach on, at which point my friend got scared, knowing a little chemistry curiosity got the better of her and she asked her hairdresser a few questions about the bleach like “What’s in it?” to which the response was something along the lines of “chemicals that strip your hair ready for the dye” now my friend started to panic as she could feel the bleach working.

So, he handed her the bottle that contained the bleach and let her read the huge list of ingredients. Off the top of her head she can remember that these:

PPD – phenylene diamine,
ammonia,
heavy metals,
peroxide,
pesticides.

Were all in the bleach.

This then has put her off chemical dyes and led her to only pursue changing her looks through Natural Cosmetics; using Natural Hair Dye and Organic Hair Dye.
