Soap making is becoming a popular hobby as it is very easy to learn but quite hard to perfect. What makes this hobby really enjoyable is that it will stimulate your mind into thinking what creative designs you can come up with, and how you are going to implement it. It is also practical as you can use the finished product to design your bathroom or even use it for washing and cleaning yourself. The basic ingredients that are needed in making soap are fats and lye. By mixing these two ingredients and letting them undergo a process called saponification, soap will then be produced. By using different types and amount of fats, as well as the process of saponification, the basic properties of soap can be determined such as softness, mildness and lathering capabilities. In addition to these basic ingredients, you will also need other materials to help you design the soap in a way that you want. Using molds, dyes and fragrance oils will help you shape, color and give your soap your desired smell. Aside from these, be sure to wear protective equipment when handling lye as this is a very corrosive substance. There are two ways that you can make fats and lye undergo saponification, a hot process and cold process. The hot process involves heating the fat and lye before and during the saponification process. This is usually used if your lye is impure and you don’t know the exact amount available. The cold process takes longer to do, does not require heating and it is used if the exact concentration of the lye is known. For you to be able to make soaps that look like those in hotels, you will need a lot of practice and trial and error to be able to make the soaps that you want. First, you should try making basic soaps without the fancy designs and colors. Once you are able to make the exact soap that you want, you can move on to making more advanced soaps and designs. The more advanced designs such as those found in hotel bathrooms and specialty shops would require you to use a combination of techniques. You can use multiple molds in making just one soap. Different dyes can also be combined to make a soap that has several colors. A special technique will also be needed if you want to create soap with a tie dye effect. You can research on the many methods and techniques on how to make even more impressive deigns with soap. You can find different uses for the final product. You can use soaps to design your bathroom or bedroom. You can also give these away as a gift to your friends. You can even sell these soaps if you are able to come up with really good designs. Lastly, if you are not satisfied with the final product, or you are already tired of seeing a design, you can always use your soap for washing your hands or when taking a shower. Soap making is a very practical hobby compared to others. It will not only help you pass the time, it will help you stimulate your mind by thinking of ways to make newer and more creative designs. The finished product can be used for designing your bathroom or it can also be given as a gift. You can even sell these soaps and earn some extra cash if you become really good at it.
