Malaria symptoms sends keeper Green into coma

June 29th, 2010 by admin

Whilst attending his first and quite possibly last world cup, malaria symptoms struck down England and West Ham goalkeeper Rob Green. Following his calamitous error in the opening game against the United States which surrendered the three points England were heading for, Green began to experience the tell tale flu like symptoms whilst in the England training camp. Not wanting to draw any further attention to himself he did not take them seriously and martyred on like the true professional that he is.

Within a few days the symptoms he displayed worsened and what was thought to be a reaction to the pressure was in fact delirium, a further symptoms of the parasitic disease. He was taken ill by the team doctors and despite their efforts to treat his malaria symptoms immediately he slipped into a mild coma. Following treatment Green awoke and is now said to be in a stable condition, his first words were to team mate Matthew Upson who was at his bedside and were reported to be; ‘Whilst in the coma Matt I had this wonderful dream that I started the first match against the USA we scored straight away, but this soon turned into a vivid nightmare when I conceded a goal that Stevie Wonder would have saved and it cost us the match, the nation hated me and I lost my place to David James’.

No more malaria symptoms for Green but he won’t want to go out and buy the world cup highlights DVD anytime soon!
