Colonoscopy Preparation

Colonoscopy is a minor endoscopic examination that requires the medical specialist to observe the interior of the large intestines. The procedure involves using either a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera which is placed on a bendable tube. The colonoscope is then put into the large intestines via the anus. Colonoscopy is used to test for gastrointestinal indications such as diarrhea, changes in bowel habits, rectal and intestinal bleeding, irregularity found from a colon x- ray or a CT scan or abdominal pain.

In order to make this procedure successful proper preparations must be made on the part of the patient. The first task is to make sure that the intestines are free solid waste, this process will take about 3 days to complete before the procedure begins. Cleaning the colon is vital because it allows the specialists to properly Inspect the colon. On the first day of the cleansing process, the patient must adhere to a diet filled with fiber and clear fluids, like apple juice, lemonade, lemon-lime soda for flushing.

Keeping the body hydration is necessary for this process for this process to be successful. Persons should stay away from orange juice, prune juice, milk and other liquids that are colored such as purple, orange drinks with the exception of cola and in some instances black coffee. The patient should also stay clear of aspirin-like medicines such as ibuprofen and salicylate for approximately ten days prior to the procedure in order to avoid the risk of bleeding while a polypectomy is done during the procducer.

Prior to the colonoscopy procedure, the person is given a laxative in the form of liquids like sodium picosulfate or magnesium citrate or tablets along with large amounts of water in order to endorse stool movement. In some cases a solution of polyethylene glycol and electrolytes are given to flush the gastrointestinal tract. On this day it is recommended that the patient stay home so they can always access the toilet facilities. Vaseline ointment should be placed around the rectum prior to taking the laxative. After the stool has been passed it is suggested that the patient use wet wipes instead of toilet papers to clean up and then sit in a bathtub filled with heated water for about 10 – 15 minutes. After leaving the bathtub, blot the skin around the anus with a soft cloth and then apply Vaseline on the anus. Use a cotton ball to absorb the leaking fluid from outside the anus area.

On the day of the colonoscopy procedure, patients are normally given pain-relieving drugs and a sedative to help the body in the relaxation process. The patient will then be required to wear a hospital gown and examined with a digital rectal examination to find out the condition of the sphincter. This is done in order to make sure that the intestinal tract is properly cleaned.

About Ischaemic Heart Disease

November 29th, 2010 by admin

The heart is one of the most important organs and holds the job of pumping blood to other organs. Ischaemic heart disease also called myocardial Ischemic is a heart illness that has an effect on the way how the blood travels to the heart. Ischaemic heart disease occurs when there is a plaque build up that tightens the arteries from sending precious blood and oxygen to the heart. The heart becomes ill when there is a reduction in the blood circulation to the heart muscle that damages the heart muscle. Ischaemic heart disease has become one of the number one causes of death in the western world.

Some the most common symptoms are acute chest pain and angina prectoris. Acute chest pain can be described as an extreme pain felt in chest and is dealt with an emergency situation.

Angina precoris results in chest pain behind the breast bone or slightly to the left of the chest, there may also be a crushing sensation, squeezing or heavy pressure spreading to the jaw, back, shoulder or event the arms. This symptom also causes indigestion, light headedness, nausea, shortness of the breath. It’s a possibility that angina precoris will not produce any of these signals even when in effect; this is known as silent ischaemia. Ischaemic Heart Disease can also produces heart failure slowly over time.

Heavy coughing, shortness of breath with after resting or while exercising, fatigue, loss of appetite, unusual heart beat patterns, swelling of the ankles and feet are all signs that a heart failure may be impending.

There are certain certain pattern that increase the possibility of you developing heart diseases. Persons who have particularly bad eating habits and suffer from being overweight automatically increase their chances of being diagnosed with these heart disease. These situations cause high cholesterol levels that make the heart overwork to keep up with the needs of the body and so leads to various heart diseases.

Persons in this situation should practice healthy eating patterns and working out for at least three times during the week and maintain your body mass. These habits can greatly reduce stress levels, massages the muscles and keeps the body in balance. Individuals that suffer from poor sleep, and don’t exercise are more prone to feel highly stressed. Cigarette smoking is also a major cause of heart diseases. If persons hope to minimize their chances of getting Ischaemic heart Disease, smoking will have to be stopped. High tension levels can also lead to ischaemic heart disease.

Individuals who have experienced a stroke or heart attack or who have a hereditarily record of heart diseases or other disease like diabetes are more prone to develop heart diseases. So Persons should take time to research their medical history and visit their doctor when needed to test the condition of their blood pressure and cholesterol levels. They should also be conscious of what they consume. Individuals may need drugs to regulate these conditions. In severe cases of Ischaemic heart Disease, surgical procedure may also be required to treat ischaemic disease but the greatest cure is prevention by exercising healthy lifestyle patterns.

Upper Cervical Chiropractor corrects vertebrae?

November 28th, 2010 by admin

Dr. A. P. Davis, in his work of 850 pages, “Osteopathy Illustrated,” says

rheumatism is “impeded capillary blood circulation;” that in rheumatism “we

have a disturbance caused by the precipitation of acid crystals of lactic acid.”

Osteopath differs from medic in his treatment of this disease only in that

former aims to accomplish with manipulation what latter tries to do with

drugs.

Dr. A. P. Davis says:

“Our treatment, then, for rheumatism should be directed to the promotion

of the circulation of the fluids of the body.”

For this he prescribes osteopathic “general treatment,”  which consists of

more than two hundred movements and takes nearly five pages to describe.

The PSC differs from both above schools in etiology and pathology of this

disease. Allopaths, Osteopaths, as well as other schools, are therapeutical.

They use remedies in treating this disease. Chiropractors do not treat

disease—they adjust cause of rheumatic symptoms.

Following will illustrate how a  Upper Cervical Chiropractor adjusts cause of

rheumatism and wherein adjustments differ from treatment of other

schools:

A. P. Bracelin, M.D., was badly crippled with rheumatism. He took four

adjustments on one vertebra, which relieved impinged nerves. He was sixty-

four years of age, and became entirely well.

C. H. Murphy, prominent attorney, was brought to The PSC by S. J. Evans,

D.D.S.  Mr. Murphy had sciatic rheumatism and suffered untold distress.

One adjustment took pressure from nerve and gave instant relief.

Expression on Mr. Murphy’s face changed from one of great pain to that of

happiness. How about lactic acid, microorganisms, or lack of gas between

joints? Cases of longer standing take more time.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic adjustments replace displaced vertebrae,

thereby taking pressure from nerves. Being freed from impingement, they

assume natural function of conduction. Does reader see resemblance

between medical and osteopathic cause and treatment of rheumatism, and

that of cause and adjustment by Upper Cervical Doctor?

Medical men finally revert to “primary lesion.”  “Rheumatism is caused

by too much lactic acid in blood.” What causes that? “Poor nutrition in body.”

What causes that? “General run-down condition of body.” What made run-

down condition of body? “Probably an exceedingly nervous disposition;

a highly irritable temperament.” Patient then asks what this has to do

with lactic acid in body, and how has lactic acid anything to do with his

condition. He may even chase medical doctor back to starting point, and he

will begin another circle upon more technical grounds.

Information about Chronic renal failure

November 28th, 2010 by admin

Chronic renal failure or CRF is a condition that proceeds chronic kidney disease, which is a serious medical condition that slowly compromises the kidneys. When a person is inflicted with kidney disease he or she is at an increased risk of additional circulatory issues including multiple forms of cardiovascular disease. As kidney disease progresses over time it will cause irreversible impairment to renal tissue that soon leads to a reduction in overall kidney function. Since February 2002 a formal classification of the different stages that occur as a result of kidney disease has been made public. It details the extent of damages in relation to the specified stage of the disease.

Stage 1: Kidney Functions normally but sign of underlying condition is evident in urine along with a few other anomalies that will denote probable kidney disease. GFR (90+)

Stage 2: Kidney function is reduced slightly, at this stage the disease is considered as mild with the potential for progressive deterioration GFR (60-89 )

Stage 3: Kidney function is moderately impaired GFR (30-59 )

Stage 4: Kidney function is severely impaired and borders on renal failure GFR (15-29 )

Stage 5: Kidney function has completely diminished, will not function effectively on its own without medical intervention. This is end stage kidney failure or established renal failure (GFR <15 )

The earlier stages of kidney disease specifically stage one and two, the GFR will not be the standalone method of diagnosis as this will be insufficient because of its inability to determine the disease in its starting stages. Other anomalies will have to be apparent, in addition to further screening tests that will be used to conclude diagnosis. Tests will be inclusive of a blood test and an imaging test.

When a person is thought to have endstage kidney disease or chronic renal failure then he or she will require intensive medical care. It is possible to suffer from the disease and remain quite well, however, it will inevitably cause the kidneys to shut down in a matter of time. The chief objective of an accurate diagnostic system and treatment is to stop it from worsening. While the disease is not reversible, there are procedures that can be used to slow or stop the progression of the disease.

The problem with renal disease is that it can remain relatively dormant in the body while slowly killing the kidneys. Once the disease reaches chronic renal failure the possibility for deterioration is greatly raised. It may take months or years for the disease to develop until it reaches endstage chronic renal failure. However, when it reaches that point the individual will have to start dialysis or have a kidney transplant done immediately. Two known risk factors for developing the disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. In the event that either are controlled the disease can still progress once it has been identified in renal tissue.

Symptoms include:

Poor appetite

Nausea and vomiting

Tiredness

Fluid retention or Edema (swollen ankles)

Itchiness

Cramps

Restless legs

Hickory Hills Chiropractors

Can “cult”, SUB-conscious, instinct, intuition, explain conception?

When a new composite organized quadruped or biped is created, we note the climax of the greatest drama taking place in 12 hours, followed in its development in 280 days, to birth. In one moment one male sperm penetrates and fertilizes one female egg. The human egg is not quite as large as a typewriter period. The egg is one highly essenced compiled compacted multiplication of systematized male and female cells. These microscopic packed cells contain about 3,000 genes, which, combined with the genes from the sperm, will, when expended during the ensuing 280 days, determine the future physical baby’s characteristics.

The egg’s journey is intellectually determined and pre- determined, even to sex, size, shape. It is 35 to 40 times the size of the sperm. The egg can’t move under its own power, but the sperm moves at the relatively fantastic speed of an inch in about eight minutes. For each egg, there are 200 to 500 million sperms, all of which start together, with a rush, to find the egg. Only a few ever reach their objective. Since the vagina’s secretions are acid and hostile to the sperms, perhaps 200 to 300 million are dead within a few hours.

Once the two masses fuse into one, conception has taken place. Within the trimester period one experiences pains which hickory hills chiropractic can normally be managed in a   hickory hills chiropractor ‘ clinic      or by a palos hills chiropractor.

Now begins the expansion process of the compacted microscopic cells, to assume form. In 280 days, approximately, the fully expanded, developed child is ready to be expelled into the outer world to assume independent life. Expansion continues until full form has been developed, at about 30 years. From then on it is a maintenance of form of expansion of cells from the varied tissue cell centers.

What supplements should I be taking during my Kickboxing Classes

November 27th, 2010 by admin

To be honest, some people believe that if you eat a healthy well balanced diet that should suffice. I happen to be one of those people.

So, to help you all out I offer you some easy to comprehend, non scientific advice which may help during your Kickboxing Classes

Firstly we’re not professional MMA fighters or world class boxers so our bodies don’t undergo the same amount of stress that athletes of this level endure. Therefore we don’t really need pre-workout shakes, training drinks, post workout shakes, post workout bars, energy gels and all the other things that advertisers tell us we need.

Every morning - Consider taking a multi vitamin tablet. The ones you buy off the shelves are fine for most of us, however, for the hardcore that train several times a day and several times a week, you’ll need a multivitamin aimed at sports people such as Multi Pro 32X. Multivitamin supplements simple ensure we hit our daily recommended amount of vitamins that aren’t readily available in everything we eat.

Evening pre-workout - you probably need nothing more than a sensible, well balanced diet throughout the day to ensure the energy levels are topped up ready for training that evening. Focus on eating good clean carbs an hour or so before you train. Add an element of protein in there as well to help the muscle breakdown that will occur as you train. And drink a cup or two of black coffee an hour or so before you start if you really want to supercharge your training and burn some extra fat. If, like me, you need that extra kick right before you start, then a handful of fruit, will give you a good kick-start. If you need longer for your food to digest before bouncing around then simply eat it earlier.

While Kickboxing training - if you’re only planning to train in one 45 min session then water is all you need. If you plan on training longer then an isotonic drink will stop you hitting the wall. Save your money and make it yourself with 500ml pineapple juice (or any fruit juice you prefer) and 500ml of water. The natural sugars in the fruit juice top up your energy levels and the water re-hydrates you. Sip this as soon as you start training so it’s goes to work for you instantly. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to start drinking it as it’s then too late – you’ve already dehydrated and it’s downhill from there on.

After Kickboxing training - you generally have a 20 min window to consume some quality nutrition so I would recommend a whey protein shake mixed with water if you trained particularly hard. Whey protein is instantly absorbed into the system and will start repairing the muscles you have broken down during your training session. Food takes longer to absorb hence I recommend a liquid protein drink. Thereafter eat a light snack within two hours of completing your training consisting of a mix of carbs and protein.

Symptoms Of Stroke

November 26th, 2010 by admin

<!– @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } –>

What causes a stroke

A stroke otherwise called “Brain Attack” is classified as an acute medical emergency disease which disrupts the body’s circulatory system. This emergency happens when there is a rupture of the arteries. This decreases the amount of blood and oxygen that goes to the brain which then causes brain damage, disability and sometimes in severe situations death.

There are two main types of strokes called as Ischemic and Hermorrhagic strokes. Ischemic stroke accounts for one out of four stroke cases and happens when the small or large arteries are tightened. This constriction stops the blood or causes clotting which stops the blood from properly circulating to the brain. Ischemic strokes are normally preceded by what is known as Transient Ischaemic Attacks. This is a mini stroke that shows symptoms which display similar traits of a full stroke. This may continue for less than five minutes at a time, within a 24 hour period and does not normally cause injury to the head.

Hermorrhagic strokes occur as a result of the arteries on the brains surface rupturing. When blood packs up this space between the brain and skull (subarachnoid hemorrhage) or when a malfunctioning artery in the brain bursts and fills the cranium with blood (cerebral hemorrhage). This results in a lack of blood flow to the head and a clot of blood that puts too much pressure on the brain, thus resulting to a full stroke. In a matter of minutes of a stroke occuring the brain cells begin to die.

A stroke can happen suddenly without showing any warning signs however there are several symptoms that can be seen days or even weeks before it happens, some of these are; sudden dizziness, loss of co-ordination, severe headaches which is accompanied by facial ache, vomiting , or altered consciousness. A sudden numbness may occur in certain areas of the body an unexplainable paralysis of an arm, leg or any side of the face. This may lead to body parts not being able to move properly. Problems may begin with your eyes such as blurred or double vision that happens suddenly. Persons may also feel awkward when speaking or comprehending speech and may fall unconscious. The person may speak with a slur or try to repeat a simple phrase. All these symptoms can either happen by alone or together.

Symptoms Of Sinus Pain

November 26th, 2010 by admin

The sinus is a section of the nasal airway and membrane system that creates mucus that filters the air that enters via the nose and into the lungs. Usually the nose and sinuses produce between a pint and quart of mucus secretions per day. When there is a heavy build up of allergies, air pollution or viral infections, the sinus can become irritated and lead to sinus pain sometimes called sinusitis. The human body is constantly being attacked by external organisms that assault the body’s internal system. The sinus is one of the first line of protection from such elements.

Sinus pain usually results from a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract or allergy-causing elements. Viral infections damage the cells of the sinus lining and causes inflammation. When the lining becomes swollen then it obstructs the nasal airway and decreases the sinuses ability to filter the bacteria that enters through the nasal area. The bacteria then starts to multiply and intrude the lining of the sinus. This process leads to sinus infection and thus sinus pain. Any Sickness that is capable of breaking down the body’s immune system can result in sinus pain, these include diabetes, leukemia and AIDS. These ailments diminish the level of security the body can provide against antibodies.

Sinus pain normally occurs in the nose but can also spread to the upper teeth, between the eyes, the ear, on your face or repeated headaches in the temple. Sinus pain can also bring along with it nasal congestion, nasal airway obstruction and runny nose. Sinus pain can lead to frequent pain over the course of months and years. Sinus pain is worsened by heavy coughing, straining and lying on the back. Maxillary sinusitis is another symptom of sinus pain which causes discomfort across the cheekbone, around the upper teeth and sometimes around the eye, the pain and pressure can become worse when the head is placed upright and flexing forward. Maxillary sinusitis can also cause swelling of the cheekbone or cause it to become tender and red. It is related to nasal discharge. Persons also frequently encounter symptoms of fever.

Sinus pain can sometimes be treated by natural home-made remedies. When the symptoms persist such as pressure in the upper face along with nasal discharge and congestion and ongoing bad breath then a doctor should be consulted to prescribe drugs to clear the sinus. Prescribed drugs work by reopening the nasal passage, this reduces the stuffy nose which alleviates the pain and pressure in the sinus. However the medication does not always eliminate sinus infections immediately and can go on for a few months, known as chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis can lead persons to feel pain across the bridge of the nose, as well as sore throat and bad breath. An untreated sinusitis can become a serious medical problem that can also lead to death.
